Step by Step Preparation Guide

“CyberKnife is a non-invasive, better known as incisionless, procedure for cancer patients. Thanks to the advancements of the CyberKnife VSI system as now there is nothing to fear about the cancerous Tumours. Once the patient takes the first step of coming to Medanta for consultation, our team of experts take multiple steps to go the extra miles in achieving and laying out a customized plan that helps to overcome the lethal disease in few sessions.

Step 1

 

Preparation for treatment: Most of the patient will need OPD consultation followed by discussion and also followed by CyberKnife planning that involves mask making and planning CT and MRI folllowed by start of therapy 1-2 days later depending on the case.
However, few cases like Liver, Pancreas, Gall Bladder, Prostate may need placement of surrogate markers - gold Fiducials that needs a short daycare procedure followed by a gap of 3-5 days depending on the case. After that the planning and treatment procedures remain the same for both groups.

 
Step 2
  Treatment set up: A week or more after preparation (Step 1), the patient has a set-up appointment, which usually takes a few hours. During this time, technicians will make a body mold or custom soft mask for head and neck treatments. Patients also receive a computed tomography (CT) scan or MRI scan. This data is used to guide the CyberKnife system robot during treatment.

* In certain cases like Liver, Pancreas, Gall Bladder and prostate among others, surrogate markers - gold fiducials may be placed for a short time period, usually for a day.
